48 Hours in Margaret River

An Immersive Sustainable Journey

Margaret River rewards those who consciously slow down. Here, the ancient land speaks directly through the wines, and the passionate producers who care for it are eager to share its stories.

This two-day journey connects you with certified members of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia. It offers a deeper, more meaningful way to explore one of the world’s great wine regions—not just tasting what is in the glass, but understanding the soil, the sea, and the mindful stewardship that brought it to life.

Proven sustainability, from grape to glass.

Day 1: Icons, Ocean Rhythms, and Innovation

Morning

Coastal Arrival

Begin your journey where the region’s distinct terroir is born: the coastline. The maritime climate is the defining force behind Margaret River’s elegance, bringing cooling breezes to the sun-drenched vines.

  • Pause at Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse: Stand at the edge of the continent where the fierce Southern and Indian Oceans collide. Breathe in the salt air and feel the profound vastness of the natural world.
  • Surfers Point: Witness the raw energy and iconic swell of the coast. This is a moment to ground yourself in the wild, untamed beauty of the southwest before venturing inland.

Late Morning

Precision and Provenance at Voyager Estate

Travel inland to the impeccable grounds of Voyager Estate, offering one of the region’s most immersive and thoughtful cellar door experiences. As a champion of organic farming, their structured tastings go far beyond the palate—they connect the wine directly back to the health of the soil and the quiet, seasonal rhythms of the vineyard.

Lunch

Estate Dining at Voyager

Linger on-site for a refined, produce-driven lunch. Their culinary philosophy is a seamless extension of the vineyard experience, championing local farmers and seasonal ingredients to create a menu that reflects the very landscape you are sitting within.

Afternoon

Firetail Wines

Operated by passionate ‘tree-changers’, Firetail wines crafts beautiful, independent wines from 30-year-old vines in the Rosa Glen area. Their labels pay homage to the red-eared Firetail finch, a beautiful native bird that nests in the local Jarrah, Marri, and Tuart forests. Their farming practices respect the delicate local ecosystem that these birds call home. Supporting Firetail means supporting small-scale, family-run agriculture that values the preservation of natural habitats just as much as the wine in the glass.

Late Afternoon

Benchmark Margaret River at Vasse Felix

Finish your first day at Vasse Felix Winery. As the region’s founding estate, this is where rich history and visionary evolution meet. Tasting here provides vital context, grounding everything you’ve experienced so far in a broader regional story of foresight, dedication, and long-term land preservation.

Evening

Settle In the Immersive Vineyard Stay

If you prefer the convenience and romance of sleeping among the vines, enjoy a stay with a certified winery offering on-site accommodation:

  •  Fermoy Estate – Located in the same prestigious Wilyabrup region, Fermoy Estate offers a peaceful, sustainable retreat.
  • Juniper Estate – A phenomenal alternative to immerse yourself completely in the lifestyle and heritage of a pioneering, environmentally conscious estate.

Day 2: Behind the Vines and Into the Landscape

Morning

Elegant Terroir at Fraser Gallop Estate

Conclude your tastings at Fraser Gallop Estate. Known for elegant, structured wines with a profound focus on pure vineyard expression, it’s a fitting, refined finale to your journey.

  • Elevate the Experience: If visiting during the warmer months, book the Wines and Vines experience that begins at 10:30am. This guided exploration allows you to physically walk the terroir, connecting the earth beneath your boots to the exceptional wines that define the estate. (Note: Runs seasonally, as winter conditions allow the vines to rest undisturbed).

Mid-Morning

Small Producers, Big Perspective at McHenry Hohnen

Awaken your palate at McHenry Hohnen Winery. Here, biodynamic principles and a steadfast commitment to minimal intervention define the winemaking approach. You’ll taste the vitality of the living soil in every glass. The tastings here feel highly personal, grounded, and wildly expressive of the natural environment.

Lunch

A Feast at Xanadu

Continue to Xanadu Wines, a certified member renowned for both its award-winning portfolio and its polished, modern approach. Despite their prestige, the tasting experience remains deeply connected to their environmental ethos, proving that premium quality and uncompromising sustainability go hand in hand. Nestled deep within the estate, their on-site restaurant is an idyllic setting for taking in the stunning, tranquil beauty of Margaret River. Enjoy the absolute finest flavours of the southwest region, expertly paired with their vibrant wines, celebrating the local community on every plate.

 Afternoon

Harmony at Stormflower Vineyard

Take a mindful pause to spotlight the land itself at Stormflower Vineyard. Their minimalist, deeply sustainable Cellar Door seamlessly extends into the outdoors. It is a relaxed, understated space designed in harmony with native flora—a place where you are encouraged to simply sit, slow down, and listen to the wind in the trees.

Late Afternoon

Innovation and Collaboration at Margaret River Vintners

Shift gears and visit Margaret River Vintners. As a collaborative winemaking facility and certified member, they represent the future of sustainable wine production. This is a brilliant showcase of a modern model: shared resources, dramatically reduced environmental impact, and collective expertise working together for the greater good of the region.

Evening

Coastal Close

End exactly where you began—by the ocean. As you watch the fading light over the water, the connection is beautifully clear: the exceptional wines, the ancient land, and the passionate people who steward it are entirely inseparable. Choosing these mindful producers turns a spectacular holiday into a lasting legacy of conservation.
