Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards operates on a philosophy defined by three words: warm, curious, and grounded. As a sixth-generation family vineyard with deep roots in South Australia’s McLaren Vale, they view sustainability not as a separate initiative, but as a practice woven directly into their family story, their wines, and the way they welcome guests.
Caring for the land requires an approach that balances historic knowledge with modern innovation. To future-proof their operations, the vineyard team utilises 100% recycled water and employs precise soil moisture monitoring to ensure they use less water by knowing exactly when irrigation is needed.
Beyond the vines, Oliver’s Taranga acts as a planting partner with Biodiversity McLaren Vale. Through yearly planting initiatives, they have created approximately five acres of native corridors across the estate and installed bat boxes around the property to assist with natural pest management.

For wine lovers looking to get off the beaten track, Oliver’s Taranga offers a highly immersive experience. The Taranga Terroir Tour is a two-hour guided journey through the property via golf cart, taking guests beyond the physical cellar door and directly into the vineyards where the wines begin.
Along the way, visitors enjoy a generous tasting of premium wines while learning about the family’s deep connection to McLaren Vale. Guests should also keep an eye out for the locals—it is common to spot mobs of kangaroos grazing in the quieter parts of the vineyard or moving through the bushland, alongside a wonderful variety of native birdlife and insects.
The family encourages visitors to embrace the slower pace of life and explore the spectacular landscape that surrounds their property. For a perfect itinerary, they recommend a summer swim at Maslin Beach to reset after a day of tasting, or hiking the trails of the Onkaparinga River National Park to take in the gorge and native bushland. To end the day, a trip to Port Willunga to watch the sunset near the old caves offers some of the best colours over the water.
